Are you using CRM for your business?

Customer Relationship Management (CRM) is a strategy many businesses use to organize and keep track of their contacts. It’s a great way to always be on top of things, by having all the client data and previous conversation details in one place.

Not only does CRM help you keep your business better organized, it also nurtures your relationship with the client. When you save all the important info, there is no risk your client will feel neglected or annoyed, because you will always be able to respond to their needs accordingly. CRM results in a happy client who will enjoy doing business with you on the long run.

Is HubSpot the CRM software of your choice?

Anyone who is familiar with CRM is also very likely familiar with HubSpot.

HubSpot is one of the most popular and widely used CRM softwares out there. Utilizing HubSpot gives you a clear picture of your clients, and helps you organize all the related information on every aspect of your interactions in one client database.

If you are one of us folks who use HubSpot on the reg, then you must have recently recieved an email from the HubSpot team, notifying you about upcoming changes in HubSpot API authentication.

What do the changes in HubSpot API authentication mean for you?

Basically, up to November 30, 2022 all apps, chatbots and plugins you’ve connected to HubSpot will need to switch from API key to the private app on HubSpot and its access token.

So, in order to continue using HubSpot CRM through the API, or some of its other features, you will need to create a private app, export the access token and add it to your API requests.

How to update your HubSpot API key integrations to use Private Apps?

Start from the Dashboard. Click the cogwheel icon in the upper right corner, which is where the Settings are.

After that, find the Integrations option in the left pane, and click on that.

Next, in the dropdown menu, you need to click on Private Apps.

You will see a new screen, where you should click Create a private app button.

Instantly, you will get this randomly generated name for the app. You can also add a description and a logo if you want (but you don’t have to).

What you need to pay attention to here are the Scopes. The Scopes are very important because they make this type of connection much more secure.

In the Scopes, you should choose the particular thing that will allow this access token to get to the CRM, CMS, or any other part of your HubSpot account.

So for example, if we have an app that adds contacts and we want to add them through the API, we would just choose “Write – crm.objects.contacts”. This scope only allows us to add new contacts, to delete them, or update them.

We won’t touch any of these other scopes.

Then we will click Create App in the upper right corner, and next, Continue Creating.

Now we get the app details, and the most important detail we need is, of course, the token. We’re going to show it first by clicking Show token.

And then, Copy it, and voila! You are all set.  This is the token you should now place in your requests.

How to authorize the HubSpot access token?

After copying the token, you can simply paste it somewhere to send it to your developers. You can, of course, also use it yourself as you develop your app. You should set the value of the Authorization field to Bearer [YOUR TOKEN] when making a request to one of the HubSpot API endpoints.
